Position Overview
Parents for Bilingual Education New Brunswick (PBENB) is seeking a dynamic, responsible,
and enthusiastic French Camp Counsellor who will also support administrative and program
development projects. This hybrid role is ideal for candidates who love working with youth, value
bilingual education, and enjoy contributing to meaningful community programs behind the
scenes.
This position is divided approximately 60% direct work with children and youth through camp
and dayprogram delivery, and 40% administrative and program planning work supporting
PBENB’s regional French Second Language (FSL) initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Youth Programming & Camp Counselling (50%)
- Lead and supervise groups of children and youth during PBENB French Camps and
regional day programs May 15 th to June 17 th at Circle Square Ranch – Snider Mountain.
Facilitate immersive French-language activities, games, cultural experiences, and
outdoor programming.
- Model positive French language use and encourage participation from learners of
varying proficiency levels.
- Support camper safety, well-being, and inclusion through proactive supervision and
responsive problem-solving.
- Collaborate with camp staff, teachers, and site partners to ensure smooth daily
operations.
- Assist with setup, cleanup, transitions, and activity logistics throughout the day.
Contribute to a welcoming, fun, and supportive environment that celebrates bilingualism
and Francophone cultures.
2. Administrative & Program Development Support (50%)
- Assist with planning, organizing, and improving PBENB’s French-language programs for
youth across the region.
- Support the development of activity guides, schedules, resource materials, and program
documentation.
- Help coordinate logistics for day programs, community events, and school-based FSL
initiatives.
- Contribute to communication tasks such as drafting emails,creating resource materials
and updating program information.
- Track participation data, compile feedback, and support evaluation processes to
strengthen program quality.
- Participate in planning sessions, and training related to program delivery and
organizational goals.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as registration management, file organization, and
inventory tracking.
Qualifications:
- Strong spoken French skills; ability to lead activities and communicate confidently with
youth in French.
- Experience working with children or youth (camps, tutoring, coaching, mentoring,
childcare, etc.).
- Strong organizational skills and comfort managing administrative tasks.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team.
- Creativity, initiative, and enthusiasm for promoting bilingualism and cultural learning.
- Reliability, professionalism, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and support a variety of program needs.
- Current or willingness to obtain: Vulnerable Sector Check, First Aid/CPR (asset), and
any required training.
Assets (Not Required)
- Francophone, or experience in French Immersion or Francophone education settings.
- Background in recreation, education, youth leadership, or community programming.
- Skills in arts, music, outdoor education, sports, or cultural programming.
- Experience with social media, content creation, or administrative software.
Work Conditions
- Combination of on-site camp work, community-based day programs, and remote/office
administrative work.
- Flexible schedule during program delivery periods (Camp is overnight 4 nights a week).
- Training provided by PBENB.
