PBENB Celebrates New Brunswick’s Anglophone Sector Education Plan - June 1, 2026
Moncton, NB – June 1, 2026 - Parents for Bilingual Education New Brunswick is proud to support the New Brunswick Anglophone Sector Education Plan (2026–2038), Strong Basics, Bright Futures, recently released by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Our organization was honoured to collaborate with Minister Claire Johnson and Department staff during the development of the French Second Language (FSL) components of this landmark 12-year plan. The Board of Parents for Bilingual Education New Brunswick (PBENB) played an active role throughout the plan’s creation, bringing the perspectives of bilingual families from across the province to the table and helping shape the FSL priorities reflected in the final document.
We fully support the plan’s commitment to strengthening French Second Language learning across both the French Immersion and English pathways, fostering partnerships with Francophone and Acadian communities, and expanding meaningful linguistic and experiential learning experiences for students.
New Brunswick holds a unique and significant place in Canada as the country’s only officially bilingual province. This Education Plan honours that distinction by investing in the next generation of bilingual New Brunswickers — young people who will help build a more harmonious, connected, and prosperous province.
“We are incredibly proud of the active role our Board played in shaping this Education Plan. Seeing our community’s voice reflected in a document that will guide FSL education for the next 12 years is deeply meaningful,” said Jane Keith, President, Parents for Bilingual Education New Brunswick.
“We appreciate Minister Johnson’s willingness to listen to our concerns and ideas, as well as the Department’s commitment to openness and transparency throughout this process. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Minister and Department staff as we work together toward a New Brunswick where French and English thrive side by side. PBENB remains committed to working with the Department to monitor the data, assessment measures, and outcomes outlined in the plan and to supporting continued transparency as its commitments are implemented over the coming years.”
Parents for Bilingual Education New Brunswick remains committed to supporting families, educators, and communities in championing French Second Language education across New Brunswick.
